About Course
Bunny’s Flowers’ mission isn’t just to grow food and flowers, it also includes soil regeneration to make it suitable for native plants to thrive. In total, it takes upwards of five years or more to re-establish clay-like soil into hardy soil that can grow grass.
Soil Regeneration
The organization’s focus on educational programs on indigenous cultures and native plants has opened doors to diverse learning environments for children, adults, and families. Both main Bunny’s Flowers’ locations are up to 10 acres of land that had used weed killer and previously grew GMO corn for profit. The organization is able to create nutrient-rich soil by adding:
- Woodchips
- Growing native plants
- Adding soil
- Other organic methods (i.e. cardboard without chemicals)
Urban Planning and Environmentalism
Urban planning is defined by the Brittanica as the design and regulation of physical spaces that focus on the social impacts of the urban environment.
The Philadelphia location has more environmental-related aspects in terms of regeneration. Most big cities don’t have the proper drainage due to building too fast – thus leading to almost irreversible damage to the environment. Through urban planning, planting, and rebuilding the soil we can do our part in helping the land thrive for generations to come.
